President-Elect Barack Obama in Chicago

Highlights: Barack's Closing Argument for Change

Full speech available at YouTube.

Barack Obama at the 2008 DNC

I was fortunate to be able to grow up seeing America from varied viewpoints. My childhood was spent in Hawaii and Indonesia. After college I worked as a community organizer on the South side of Chicago focusing on improving living conditions in poor neighborhoods.

I came to understand that to truly solve the problems facing our communities, it would take a change in our laws and our politics. I ran and served for seven years in the Illinois state Senate, where I fought for expanding children's health care, providing tax cuts for the working poor and enacting welfare reform. In 2004, I was elected to the U.S. Senate, where I have worked to pass laws securing dangerous weapons and making government more accountable. I have also opposed the Iraq war from the start, and believe that we need to bring our troops home so we can refocus on the wider struggle against terrorism.

Of all my life experiences, I am most proud of my wife Michelle and my daughters Malia and Sasha.

Message from Barack: "How this happened"

Posted November 05th, 2008 at 10:15pm

Before his Election Night speech last night, Barack sent out this message to suppporters:

I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don't want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign. We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing...

All of this happened because of you.

Thank you,

Barack

Barack Obama will be sworn in as President of the United States of America on January 20th, 2009. It will be an unprecedented event in the history of our country, and hundreds of thousands of people will come together in Washington, D.C. to share the moment. Supporters like you made this happen. You know that real change comes from the bottom up, not from the top down, and Barack and Joe want you to join them on this historic day. They want to start off this administration with the people who worked so hard and will continue to fight for change with them. Between now and January 8th, 10 supporters and their guests will be selected to join the Inaugural activities. If you make a donation -- in any amount -- to make the Inauguration a success, you and a guest could be flown to Washington, D.C., put up in a hotel, and be there as Barack is sworn in as the 44th President. Will you make a donation of $5 or more right now? You and a guest could receive your ticket to history. Unlike past inaugurations, this year's event will not be paid for by Washington lobbyists or corporations. This campaign was funded by 4 million ordinary people giving only what they could afford, and Barack and Joe are counting on you again. Help start this administration off right -- independent of the special interest donors who have shaped Washington for too long. This Inauguration will be open to as many Americans as possible. We'll all come together to celebrate the hope and optimism that define this movement for change. But you could be one of 10 selected to join us in Washington for all Inaugural events. Any donation you make between now and January 8th counts -- whatever you can afford. Show your support for a different kind of politics and a different kind of inauguration with a donation of $5 or more today. The Inauguration will be a once-in-a-lifetime event. I hope you can join us. Thank you, David David Plouffe Campaign Manager Obama for America P.S. -- If you cannot make a donation, you and a guest could still be selected to receive your ticket to history. Learn more here. Matthew 10:17-22 Jesus told his followers: "Beware of men, for they will hand you over to courts & scourge you in their synagogues, & you will be led before governors & kings for my sake as a witness before them & the goim. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak. or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say. For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will hand over brother to death, & the father his child; children will rise up against parents & have them put to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever endures to the end will be saved." All too often we forget in this country the fine line that divides patriotism from nationalism. We forget that Jesus was tried by the leaders of his nation & crucified by the leaders of the Roman nation. The charge was treason. He claimed to usurp the civil authorities of his day. The issue was the church in the person of Jesus versus the state with its obligation of patriotism, which Jesus & the early church rejected. The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that in patriotism we all agree that we are a nation a people, children of the one true father. We identify as a people who are born together and sharing a national identity & purpose. Our national identity is as a nation of immigrants, rescued from oppression. As a result, our goal, our purpose is to rescue others. This is not the case with nationalism. Nationalism is not about having a constructive purpose. Nationalism, as with the case with Rome, is all about winning. It is not about being right, it is about being the strongest. It is about the survival of the fittest. Republicanism is about nationalism. It seems to have no goal, other than to win. Deception is OK. Torture is OK. Brute force is OK. Hanging chads are OK. The goal is winning for winning's sake. It is whatever it takes to win. Patriots do not always win, but they are always right. There is no room for deception, torture, or brute force in patriotism. We have had that done to us & we do not like it. Christ is all about grace & truth. How can there be torture, brute force or deception in the tent of grace and truth? They do not go together. As patriots we realize that we are all children born together, becoming a nation. As a nation of immigrants we are too busy building each other up to have time to think of anything else. This Christmas season, let us all strive to become a nation, a people born together born of the same Mother, the Blessed Virgin, the same first son, Jesus Christ, & the same Father.

This holiday season, the grassroots movement you helped build can make a big difference for those in need. I hope you will join me in supporting your favorite charity or contributing to causes that are especially meaningful to me and my family. While many of us will spend the holidays counting our blessings and sharing dinner with loved ones, millions of people around the country won't be so fortunate. Donating to your local food bank will help provide a holiday meal to people in your community who can't afford one. Talking with the families of deployed troops was one of the most rewarding experiences I had during the campaign. Giving to Operation USO Care Package is a great way to send members of our military stationed around the world a reminder that someone back home is thinking of them. This is a time to celebrate our blessings, the new year, and a new era for our country. But it's also a time to come together on behalf of those who need our help. Do what you can to help today by locating your local food bank and giving your support. Or send a care package to an American in uniform. Thank you for all that you do and have a very happy holiday season, Michelle Obama

But you are members of the Joshua Generation. And it is now up to you to finish the work that they began. It is up to you to cross the river. When Joshua discovered the challenge he faced, he had his doubts and his worries. But the Lord told Joshua not to fear. He said, "Be strong and have courage, for I am with you wherever you go." Those are the words I will leave you with today. Be strong and have courage. Be strong and have courage in the face of injustice. Be strong and have courage in the face of prejudice and hatred. Be strong and have courage in the face of joblessness and helplessness and hopelessness. Be strong and have courage, in the face of our doubts and fears, in the face of skepticism, in the face of cynicism, in the face of a mighty river. Be strong and have courage and let us cross over to that Promised Land together. ~Barack Obama (Washington, DC | September 28, 2007)

All I can say is "Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last." The horror of the past 28 years is now over. We are free at last. Being told by employment security that "sponsoring and encouraging harassment in the workplace is a perfectly normal and acceptable business practice" is not over. We are free at last. Being told by referees at the EEOC that "the US Constitution may well protect freedom of speech and religion but those protections are not backed up by law, so it is acceptable for your employer to fire you for being a democrat and besides, we do not like your religion," is over. We are free at last. Looking in five states to find a job as a college graduate that paid as much as the jobs available in the 70's for a high school drop out in a new town is over. We are free at last. "Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last." Congratulations on the win. Now let us bring this win to all Americans and all people, rich and poor, democrat and republican, black and white, brown and red, native american and hispanic, German and Irish, Spanish and French.

Here are a few tips to make sure your vote counts! Please have ID...yes THAT MEANS YOU! One reason get turn away from voting is that they don't have identification. Here is a list of type of identification you should use. A. Driver's License (Best Choice) B. Passport (Great Choice) C. State/Government Issue ID (Military,County, State, Municipal) D. State Funded Public School ID (Georgia State, Community College) E. Voter ID (this is free!) F. Non Driver's License IF YOU ARE A FIRST TIME VOTER BE READY TO BE ASKED FOR VALID ID When voting electronically, BRING A No. 2 Pencil with eraser top. Why? A. Use the pencil to make your candidate choice B. Don't Wear Jewelry (rings, bracelets) C. Don't advance your screen UNTIL prompted D. Cut your fingernails to nubs Many people have big fingers or long fingernails which causes the person to "miss" their candidate vote....This is called a VOTER ERROR... Sometimes the person ring (especially if you use your knuckles) can cause the VOTER ERROR.... By using a No. 2 Pencil with eraser top...you can choose your candidate by hitting the correct person. Make sure it lights up! Don't keep hitting the NEXT button until prompted. WAIT for the machine to state (the hourglass prompt) to hit the button ONCE FINISHED.....LOOK AT THE CHOICES BEFORE CASTING BALLOT! Sometimes "Voter Error" comes from having: Long fingernails jewelry (ring) YOU BLIND as hell because of the slant of the screen. I am a poll worker here in GA and this happened 4 times last week. We keep no. 2 pencils and this quickly "erase" (no pun intended) the problem. TELL EVERYONE! (Courtesy of Paul from Atlanta Ga)

President Obama: Sometimes when I see you on television, I weep. Because of happiness. God is doing something, and it is wonderful to behold. I am praying for you now and also for your future as our 44th President. (Note: Please do not take the language of the past era negatively, and look at the message of Robert Kennedy in the accompanying photo)... Prophecy 1968
